
카이가 엄마, 아빠와 함께 맨하탄에 있는 American Museum of Natural History에 갔습니다. 벌써 이번이 세번째 방문입니다. 예전에는 주차할 공간을 찾느라 박물관 주변을 몇 바퀴씩 돌곤 했었는데, 이번에는 운좋게도 단번에 박물관 정문 코앞에 자리를 찾았습니다.
카이는 몇 달 전에 왔을 때보다는 더 관심있게 전시된 동물들에게 눈길을 줍니다. 엄마아빠가 말해주는 동물 이름들도 이젠 제법 비슷하게 따라합니다. 이 날 엄마는 카이에게 공룡이 그려진 옷을 입히는 센스도 발휘했습니다. 카이는 공룡뼈도 보고, 맘모스뼈도 보고, 새도 보고, 고래도 보고, 사자도 보고, 얼룩말도 보고, 코뿔소도 보고, 하이에나도 보고, monkey도 보았습니다. 살아있는 동물들은 아니고, 전시실 창 너머로 보이는 박제된 동물들인데, 굉장히 사실적으로 잘 만들어 놓았습니다.
"카이야, 저게 뽀로로 친구들을 도와주었던 그 고래야.", "저건 Dora가 구해준 baby jaguar랑 비슷하게 생겼다, 그치?" June과 Boyeon은 이렇게 이야기하면서 다니고 있는데, 옆에서 다른 엄마, 아빠도 아이에게 "Dora and Diego...blah blah" 하며 지나가더군요. :)
오래 전 June이 학부를 다닐 때, drawing class에서 여기로 field trip을 나온 적이 있습니다. 그 때 June은 박물관 바닥에 앉아서 목탄으로 공룡뼈들을 그렸었는데, 마침 바로 저 위 사진에서 카이 뒤로 보이는 공룡뼈도 그렸던 기억이 나서 그 file을 찾아보았습니다. (왼쪽 그림)이 날 한가지 확실하게 배운 것—지난번에 카이가 당근을 잘 먹어서 카이랑 놀아주려고 왔던 수십마리의 새 이름이 Boyeon의 말대로 Canada goose가 맞더군요.

June designs in New York City. His graphic design works have received lots of awards and been showcased in publications and exhibitions in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
In his earlier days in Seoul, he used to be a medical student, played a cello in an orchestra and participated in protests against dictatorship.

Boyeon was born and grew up in Seoul and now lives by the Hudson river in New Jersey with her husband and two sons.
She studied computer programming as well as programming-based design and used to work as a programmer.
However, she is so busy these days in taking care of two boys that she cannot find enough time to even open her e-mails everyday.
Boyeon likes ice creams, Korean rice cakes, Klimt’s oil paintings and Michael Mann’s 1995 film Heat and
she also enjoys traveling culturally-distinctive places like southern Europe.
Boyeon is a perfectionist and has amazingly good memory. She easily shed tears, has an acute sense of taste and is a good cook.
Kai was born on October 19th, 2006 in New Jersey as Boyeon and June’s first son and it was 20 years after his parents first met in their junior high.
Now he is Tate's big brother.
His blood type is RH A+, his horoscope is libra and his zodiac is dog.
Kai is a Hawaiian origin word that means ‘ocean’ and also has a meaning of ‘willow tree’ in native American language.
His middle name is Haon, which has a concept of “True happiness can be found in small things of everyday life.”

These days Kai goes to a preschool and sometimes surprises Mom and Dad by saying very difficult words.
Kai turns three in this fall.
Tate was born on June 2nd, 2008 in New Jersey as Boyeon and June's second son as well as Kai's brother.
His horoscope is Gemini and his zodiac is rat, and his blood type is RH A+, which is what all of his family have.
The word Tate means ‘cheerful’ and has an old English origin.
His middle name is from a Korean pronunciation of a Chinese character 濬, which has a meaning of profound; to make a waterway by digging a river deep.
Tate’s name includes his parents’ wish for him to be a happy, cheerful person who also has depth in his life.
Now He walks well and tries everything his brother does. He doesn't get scared of new things.
Tate is in the second year of his life.
